Setting up a new PC is thrilling, until moving everything over comes along. Migrating files, reinstalling programs, and reapplying your settings can become a pain in no time. Microsoft is aware of this and is finally taking action.Â
The new PC-to-PC migration feature coming to Windows 11
In the latest Windows 11 beta, Microsoft is introducing a new PC-to-PC migration experience. It’s integrated into the Windows Backup app and intended to make changing devices less agony.
The rollout is currently in its initial stages. If you’re on the beta channel, you may see a new landing and pairing page within the Backup app. It doesn’t accomplish much as of yet, but it provides a first look at what’s in store.
At some point, this feature will enable you to carry over files and settings from your previous PC to a new one during setup. Support for migrating during first-time setup will come in a later update, Microsoft reports.
Even if you’re on the latest beta build, you may not experience the new feature. And if you do, it’s not working yet. Microsoft has not indicated when full support will be available, but it’s apparent that this is something users have requested.
