Microsoft has designed Office apps in a way that’s easier for you to collaborate with your colleagues, and comments are one of the useful features. However, if you’ve struggled with editing comments in PowerPoint, there’s some good news thanks to Microsoft.
The latest update to PowerPoint makes it easier to keep comments intact while editing presentations
Generally, when you move or delete a slide from your PowerPoint presentation, a part of your comment could get edited out, leaving it hanging without the necessary context. Not to mention, this makes the whole purpose of commenting fail miserably.
As noted by Neowin, the good news is that Microsoft is fixing this issue with the latest PowerPoint updates. Now, when you move or copy content within a slide, the comments you attached move right along with it. This includes comments on a text, text boxes, tables, shapes, or even SmartArt.
In short, if your team or your colleague left a comment as feedback on a certain element of the presentation, it’ll stay attached even when you shuffle them around.
Microsoft, in a Tech Community post, notes different scenarios to try:
- Move content within the same slide: Select a sentence with a comment linked to it, cut it, and paste it elsewhere in the same slide, and watch as the comment moves, too.
- Move content between slides: Cut a shape or text box with comments from one slide and paste it into another, and the feedback will shift to that new place.
- Copy content: Copy and paste a commented object, and the comments will stay with the original content, but the replicated version will start fresh with no comments. (This is aligned with the current experience.)
The update is rolling out to web, Windows, and macOS
The latest improvements to comments in PowerPoint are rolling out to the web version of PowerPoint. The update is also making its way to Windows (version 2503, build 18623.20178) and macOS (version 16.96, build 25041326). Speaking of the company news, Microsoft recently also unveiled two new Copilot AI agents and a revamped Copilot app.
