NVIDIA Unveils DLSS 4.5 With 6x Frame Generation & Sharper AI Upscaling at CES 2026
The CES 2026 event officially kicks off today in Las Vegas, but that hasn’t stopped tech companies from pulling the curtain back early. NVIDIA has joined the show ahead of schedule and announced its next major update to Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS). The company has unveiled DLSS 4.5 with a focus on higher image quality and ultra-high refresh rate gaming.
DLSS 4.5 introduces NVIDIA’s second-generation Super Resolution transformer model, alongside a new 6x Multi Frame Generation mode built specifically for RTX 50-series GPUs. The update allows AI to generate up to five additional frames for every single rendered frame, targeting smooth 240Hz gameplay.
NVIDIA’s DLSS 4.5 brings second-generation Super Resolution
DLSS 4.5 is rolling out today across all RTX GPUs, though NVIDIA says the update runs fastest on RTX 40- and 50-series cards. Meanwhile, the new transformer model is designed to improve overall image quality while reducing artifacting issues seen with DLSS 4, including ghosting, shimmering, and edge instability.

According to NVIDIA, the updated model uses five times more compute power than the original transformer model. It was trained on a significantly expanded high-fidelity dataset and is optimized to take advantage of the faster Tensor Cores found in newer GeForce RTX GPUs. The company says the model better understands in-game scenes. This allows it to improve lighting accuracy, motion clarity, and fine edge detail.
6x Multi Frame Generation targets 240Hz gaming on RTX 50-series GPUs
Besides image quality upgrades, NVIDIA is also working on a more aggressive frame generation option. The new 6x Multi Frame Generation mode caters to 4K 240Hz gaming and will launch in spring 2026 for RTX 50-series GPUs. Unlike DLSS 4, which capped frame generation at three AI-generated frames, the new mode pushes that number to five.

Besides that, NVIDIA has also announced Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, which automatically adjusts frame generation levels based on workload intensity. When you’re playing resource-intensive games, the system increases frame generation to ensure smooth output. When the load eases, it scales back to reduce unnecessary processing.

Notably, DLSS 4.5 support extends to more than 400 games and apps through the NVIDIA app starting today. It allows users to enable the update even in titles that haven’t been officially patched. NVIDIA has confirmed that both 6x Multi Frame Generation and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation will arrive in spring 2026, exclusively for RTX 50-series GPUs.
