OpenAI appears to be preparing another major expansion for ChatGPT, following the recent rollout of its new Translate feature. This time, the focus seems to be on a cross-platform capability that could unify mobile and web experiences.

OpenAI tests mysterious “Agora” feature across ChatGPT platforms

According to Bleeping Computer, OpenAI is internally testing a new ChatGPT feature codenamed “Agora.” Researcher Tibor Blaho spotted the references on X, where app code revealed mentions of Agora across multiple platforms.

The code includes references to iOS, Android, and client-side implementations, suggesting that Agora targets cross-platform functionality rather than a single-device feature. This points to a system designed to work seamlessly across mobile apps and the web version of ChatGPT.

The name “Agora,” derived from the Greek term for a public gathering space or marketplace, hints at possible social, collaborative, or group-based interactions. Some speculation also links the name to real-time communication features, such as voice or video, due to its similarity to the Agora real-time audio and video SDK brand.

Agora hints at a broader ChatGPT ecosystem, but details remain unclear

At this stage, OpenAI has not confirmed what Agora actually does. The references only indicate that development spans all major ChatGPT platforms, which suggests broad ambitions rather than a minor update.

No information exists yet about a public release timeline or official feature set. Agora could launch as a new app, a built-in ChatGPT mode, or a shared ecosystem that connects users across devices.

Alongside these developments, OpenAI continues to push into new areas, including healthcare initiatives and reported work on ChatGPT-powered earbuds, signaling an aggressive expansion beyond traditional AI chat experiences.
