Opera Neon Adds MCP Connector to Let AI Work Right Inside the Browser
Opera has rolled out MCP Connector for its agentic browser, Opera Neon, allowing external AI clients to connect directly to live browser sessions. The update comes just days after the company updated Opera One with Gemini and Google Translate right into the sidebar.
Speaking of the latest update, the MCP connectors allow AI tools to work inside the browser instead of working in isolated environments.
This cuts the hassle of constantly copying content, re-explaining tasks, or restarting workflows when switching between tools. MCP Connector keeps AI in the same context where the work already happens. Speaking about the update, Monika Kurczyńska, Director of R&D for browser AI at Opera, says, “Last year, we launched Browser Operator as a first step toward an agentic browser. Now we are opening those capabilities to external AI clients through MCP, so they can act directly inside the browser, not outside it.”
As part of this update, AI clients can now access open tabs, page content, and authenticated sessions. They can also perform tasks such as navigating websites, capturing screenshots, filling out forms, opening new tabs, and running searches.
Popular AI tools, including Claude, ChatGPT, Lovable, OpenClaw, and n8n, can connect immediately. Opera says this creates an open ecosystem for AI developers and users alike.
“This is the next step in making browsers truly agentic. AI can now operate where users work, without needing to recreate context,” Kurczyńska further adds. In the blog post, Opera says that use cases range from application testing and prototyping to automation and workflow management. For instance, developers can test apps in a real browser environment, while prototyping tools can generate designs directly on live interfaces.
Opera has made sure that security remains a priority. Connections are authenticated via a secure MCP server URL, and a persistent proxy ensures stable sessions and notifies users if the browser becomes unavailable. MCP Connector is available now for Opera Neon subscribers. Opera also plans to introduce a simplified version of the connector for its flagship Opera One and gaming-focused Opera GX browsers, expanding AI integration across its portfolio.
