Outlook may not remember your password after Windows updates

Microsoft confirms that Outlook and other Windows 10 apps are affected by a new issue causing them to forget users’ passwords.

This happens after installing Windows 10 Version 2004 Build 19041.173 and related updates. This issue is related to certain tasks from Windows 10 Task Scheduler that are improperly configured.

Plenty of users are in this situation and look for a quick solution. If you’re one of them as well, here’s what Microsoft revealed:

This issue occurs when some Windows 10 Task Scheduler Tasks are configured in a certain way. Until a fix is available a workaround is to disable these tasks using Task Scheduler.

How to make Outlook remember your password again?

make Outlook remember your password again
  1. At first, open the Quick Link menu by right-clicking the Start button and selecting Windows PowerShell (Admin).
  2. Then, copy-paste this command into Windows PowerShell and execute it by hitting Enter:
    Get-ScheduledTask | foreach { If (([xml](Export-ScheduledTask -TaskName $_.TaskName -TaskPath $_.TaskPath)).GetElementsByTagName("LogonType").'#text' -eq "S4U") { $_.TaskName } }
  3. Now, type Task Scheduler in the Windows 10 Search box to open the Task Scheduler app.
  4. Locate the task in the Window (HP Customer participation) or another task from the Windows PowerShell output.
  5. Right-click the task and choose Disable.
  6. For the change to take place, restart Windows.

Until an official fix is available, don’t hesitate to disable these tasks using Task Scheduler. One of them is precisely the HP Customer participation utility task.

All you need to do is to complete the workaround procedure described above. However, do note that you may have to enter your passwords one more time before they are saved correctly again.
