If your new Outlook inbox constantly bombards you with back-to-back desktop notifications, Microsoft is finally doing something about it. Earlier this month, the company has quietly confirmed a new feature that groups multiple incoming email alerts into a single notification.

The company says the new grouped notifications feature will help reduce interruptions without making you miss important messages. Rather than showing a separate desktop alert every time a new email lands within seconds of another, Outlook will now combine those messages into one notification.

Whenever you click the grouped notification, it opens the latest email, while the remaining unread messages stay available inside the inbox. The update applies to both the new Outlook for Windows and Outlook on the web. Microsoft says the feature will be enabled by default, although users who prefer the old behavior can switch it off by heading to Settings > General > Notifications > Email > Group notifications.

Speaking of the rollout, Microsoft confirmed the feature through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center under Message ID MC1385580.

All that said, grouped notifications will make the desktop experience feel less noisy for users dealing with busy inboxes throughout the workday. In the Message Center, the company has marked that the feature will be available starting late July 2026, with plans to roll it out to every user starting mid-September 2026.

What do you think about grouped notifications? Will it be handy for you if you have it? Let us know in the comments below.
