outlook emails offline

Outlook introduced an offline mode a while ago, and the platform essentially lets users work on an email even if they lose connection to the Internet. However, according to a new entry to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, the Redmond-based tech giant wants to let users search emails while offline.

This means that even if you’re not connected to the internet, or the search service isn’t working correctly, you can still perform essential search functions within Outlook.

You can find emails or other content stored locally on your device without relying on an active internet connection or external search services.

Here’s what the entry says:

We are adding more functionality to offline mode in the new Outlook for Windows. You will now be able to do basic search functions without internet connection or when the search service fails.

As the entry says, this new enhancement is only available to the new Outlook for Windows, so those still using the classic version of the app won’t be able to access it.

However, given just how much users would like Microsoft to offer support for classic Outlook on AI PCs, this feature could also be released to this app version at some point.

It will be generally available to all starting September 2025.
