Microsoft will enhance the new Outlook for Windows and Web with a new capability allowing users to organize emails saved in .pst files (Outlook Data Files) as conversations.

The .pst files are special files used by Microsoft Outlook to store emails, calendar events, contacts, and other data. Think of them as personal storage files for your Outlook data.

Before this update, emails in .pst files were individual messages. With the new update, Outlook can now group these emails into conversation threads. This means all related emails—like replies and forwards—are shown together as a single conversation, making it easier to follow the flow of the discussion.

Microsoft also plans to add even more features for .pst files in future updates. This could mean more ways to organize, view, and manage your emails and other data within these files.

The new enhancement was announced in a recent entry to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap. Here’s the description:

With this update of support for .pst files (a.k.a. Outlook Data File) in the new Outlook for Windows, users will be able to group messages as conversation for emails within .pst file. Future releases of new Outlook will expand the support for .pst file capabilities. #newoutlookforwindows

The Redmond-based tech giant will release it in March for all new Outlook for Windows and Web users.

Speaking of which, Windows 10 users finally have access to this version of the platform, after Microsoft released it to the soon-to-reach-EOS operating system last week.
