PS6 Release Date & Price Haven't Been Decided Yet, Says Sony CEO
The release window of PS6 just got murkier. Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki says the company still has not decided when its next console will release, nor it has decided on its pricing just yet. Memory costs and supply shortages remain major concerns.
Sony still hasn’t decided PS6 release date or its price just yet
According to VGC, Totoki made the comments during an interview with The Wall Street Journal. He said Sony has not decided the PS6 launch timing or its eventual price. That matters because rumor mill has been floating 2027 as the expected release window for PS6. Reports from earlier this year also floated 2028 or 2029 as possible alternatives, though a popular insider had rubbished the same at the time.
Sony’s financial report previously warned that memory prices could remain elevated through fiscal 2027. The company says supply conditions are expected to stay tight.
Memory prices could reshape Sony’s next console strategy
The problem goes beyond simply picking a release month. Expensive memory increases manufacturing costs and could force Sony to rethink pricing. Totoki also said Sony may take different business models in consideration.
In the past, multiple reports have hinted about Sony experimenting with different memory configurations to weigh PS6 affordability.
For now, none of those rumored dates represent an official Sony commitment. Even a rumored 2027 launch remains just that, especially after Totoki’s latest comments. Sony therefore appears to have more than a calendar problem. The company needs to balance performance, manufacturing costs, memory availability, and consumer pricing before committing anything.
