Qualcomm Reportedly Delays Windows Handheld Chips, Won't Share Updates on Snapdragon G or X at GDC 2026

Qualcomm has reportedly pulled back plans to unveil Windows‑focused gaming chip at the upcoming Game Developers Conference.

The news comes via The Verge, which quoted a statement provided by Qualcomm spokesperson Cassandra Garcia-Bacha, stating that the company won’t announce any updates to its Snapdragon G Series gaming chips at the event. That’s not all; the company also won’t offer updates on the recently announced Snapdragon X lineup.

Qualcomm reworks handheld strategy

Qualcomm had hinted earlier this year that Windows gaming handhelds powered by Snapdragon G Series or Snapdragon X chipsets might be showcased at the March event. However, it isn’t happening now. A part of statement provided by Garcia-Bacha reads, “Snapdragon X Series and Snapdragon G Series processors are pushing the PC, desktop, and handheld gaming device industries forward. Our commitment remains strong, and we can’t wait to share more information about these areas.”

This suggests at postponement, and not a total revoke of plans, even if official product news isn’t imminent. Industry analysts see this shift as a temporary pause rather than a cancellation. Supply chain challenges, especially ongoing memory crunch, and broader market timing may be behind Qualcomm’s decision to hold back until a later coordinated launch window. This also means that manufacturers and developers looking for new Arm‑based Windows handheld opportunities may now have to wait past GDC.

With no new handheld announcements this March, the next logical launch timeline could be at Computex or later 2026 tech events, where Qualcomm and partners may finally showcase what Snapdragon silicon can do in Windows‑on‑Arm devices.
