Several users recently received the Reddit user agent error wherein they were informed that their account was blocked.

The message read, Whoa there, pardner! Reddit’s awesome and all, but you may have a bit of a problem. Make sure your User-Agent is not empty, is something unique and descriptive and try again. If you’re supplying an alternate User-Agent string, try changing back to default as that can sometimes result in a block.

But that’s not the case. It turned out to be a temporary glitch due to a bad chode change, which got fixed automatically within a few hours. However, if you are still seeing the message, it’s time to troubleshoot things!

How do I fix the Reddit user agent error?

Before we start with the slightly complex solutions, try these quick ones:

  • Check the Reddit’s server status on Downdetector. There were thousands of reports of Reddit’s User agent error on November 15, 2023, due to a server outage, which was later rectified.
  • Try accessing Reddit on another browser (preferably Opera or Firefox) or device, or use the mobile app.
  • Use old.reddit.com or new.reddit.com to access Reddit.

1. Clear the browser cache and cookies

  1. Launch the browser, and press Ctrl + Shift + Delete to open the Clear browsing data box.

  6. Finally, with the Developer Tools still open, go to Reddit in the same tab, and check whether the user agent error is fixed.

4. Contact Reddit support

When nothing else works, it is best that you contact Reddit support. But don’t do it via the email address link provided in the error message. Instead, go with the official support channel, i.e., the dedicated website.

And Reddit should inform you of any localized issues at your end or whether the outage is still affecting devices. Though as per user reports, the problem seems to have been fixed completely.
