Slay the Spire 2 Shatters Steam Concurrent Player Record After Early Access Launch

The long-awaited sequel Slay the Spire 2 has exploded onto Steam and has shattered all the franchise’s previous concurrent player records just hours after launching in Early Access.

Early Access launch drives massive player count

At the time of writing this, SteamDB shows that the roguelike deck-builder has reached over 255,000 concurrent players, instantly surpassing the original game’s all-time peak and becoming one of the most played titles on the platform shortly after release.

To catch you up, the original Slay the Spire reached its highest recorded concurrent player count of around 57,000 players, a record set only recently during the 2025 Steam Winter Sale surge.

The sequel surpassed 100,000 concurrent players within the first hour of release and quickly climbed beyond 150,000 players, hinting at a massive demand from longtime fans of the genre-defining deck-builder. The strong debut immediately pushed Slay the Spire 2 into Steam’s top charts, overtaking several high-profile releases like Marathon and Resident Evil Reqeuim.

Developed by Mega Crit, Slay the Spire 2 is set 1,000 years after the events of the original game and brings new characters, cards, relics, and enemies while expanding the series’ roguelike deck-building formula. One of the biggest additions is four-player co-op, which allows players to climb the Spire together for the first time, alongside new team-based mechanics and expanded gameplay systems.

The game is expected to remain in Early Access for more than one year as developers improve the experience and add additional content. With concurrent player counts continuing to climb, Slay the Spire 2 appears poised to remain one of Steam’s biggest PC launches of the year.
