Spotify is expanding its video podcast ambitions by partnering with Apple to support HLS video distribution across Spotify for Creators and Megaphone.

The move allows eligible creators to publish video podcasts directly to Apple Podcasts without changing their current upload workflows. Spotify says creators can now reach larger audiences while still keeping access to monetization tools.

Spotify wants creators to distribute video everywhere

Spotify confirmed that creators using the new system can continue earning revenue even when their video podcasts appear on Apple Podcasts. The company positions the integration as a way to remove the need to choose between audience reach and monetization.

There is one important limitation, however. Creators must upload content directly through Spotify to access the Apple Podcasts integration and monetization features. Traditional RSS-based podcast distribution may not fully support the new workflow.

Spotify says the broader goal involves building a platform-agnostic video podcast ecosystem. The company increasingly appears to view itself as podcast infrastructure rather than only a listening app.

Third-party podcast hosts also gain support

Spotify also expanded video podcast support for several third-party hosting providers, including Libsyn, Podigee, Audioboom, Audiomeans, and Podspace.

Eligible creators using those hosting platforms can now distribute video podcasts to Spotify while also monetizing them through Spotify’s systems.

The expansion further strengthens Spotify’s push into video podcasting, an area the company increasingly describes as central to podcast growth and the creator economy.

Spotify continues pushing deeper into video

Spotify says video has become one of the fastest-growing parts of podcast consumption. The company increasingly views podcasting as a hybrid ecosystem that blends traditional audio shows with YouTube-style creator content.

The announcement follows several recent podcast-focused changes from Spotify, including AI-powered podcast creation tools, new controls that let users disable video playback, and broader podcast API integrations.

In separate updates, Spotify also introduced verified artist badges aimed at reducing AI-generated impersonation issues while continuing to expand its AI DJ experience.
