Steam Controller Release Date in Japan Reportedly Set for May 4
Pricing already tipped for $99
These days, Valve’s Steam Controller has been circulating in the news more often, mostly because of its imminent release. Last week, a listing of an unboxing video on the SteamDB site sparked speculation about its near release. And it seems the release is indeed near.
An early review leaks May 4 as the release date of the Steam Controller in Japan
In a now-deleted review by 4Gamer, spotted first by Videocardz, the Steam Controller’s release date was leaked. It’s coming in Japan on May 4. Reportedly, the article was indexed by Google, and the meta description (machine-translated) reads, “Valve’s Steam Controller, a wireless and wired gamepad for Steam-compatible PCs and devices, will be released in Japan on May 4 at 3 PM [JST].”
The news outlet was quick to pull some images from 4Gamer’s review, which showcase the retail box of the device and more. Take a look yourself:

Previous leak hints at $99 price tag
The leak around the Steam Controller’s release date comes after a YouTube review briefly showcased the new controller. However, the video has been taken down, but not before leaking some key specs of the gaming controller and the $99 price tag.
According to YouTube channel Techy Talk, the Steam Controller will feature dual trackpads for mouse-like precision control, along with magnetic thumbsticks to eliminate stick drift. The controller also reportedly comes with HD rumble, four back buttons, integrated gyro controls, haptic feedback, and an 8.39Wh Li-ion battery.
Official announcounment could be incoming
With the release date and pricing now popping up online, it seems Valve is finally getting ready to release the Steam Controller. All that said, Valve is yet to make an official announcement about the price and the release date. If the details are accurate, we are not that far away from the launch. Now, with leaks already on the internet, the official announcement could be on its way.
