Microsoft Teams will offer a better and faster performance on browsers such as Safari, and Firefox, according to the latest entry in the Microsoft 365 Roadmap. Teams users accessing the platform from these internet browsers should expect an improved experience in meetings, chats, and UX/UI.

The latest Teams meeting experiences will be available for Teams on the web in Safari and Firefox browsers – including performance improvements, refreshed pre-join, updated meeting stage, and the updated meeting toolbar. (for anonymous join only)

The roadmap reveals the Teams will get these improvements on Safari and Firefox, starting with a preview in January 2024, before rolling out generally the next month, in February 2024.

These enhancements will be available to everybody, on a global scale, and one of the best parts about it is that anonymous members will also get to experience these features.

Speaking of which, it’s interesting Teams is getting better for Safari and Firefox, but at the same time, those who access Teams from Chrome will start to have difficulties with the platform, beginning in 2024. Would it be time to migrate to another to Firefox, or Safari?

Teams for Web running better on Firefox and Safari: Is it time to ditch Chrome?

Chrome will implement new policies starting January 2024, that will greatly affect those Teams for Web users who access the platform from this particular internet browser. Many changes will happen, including an overall decrease in the performance of the app, such as:

  • Users of the new Teams app will have to click a banner every 24 hours to make sure they stay signed in to Teams.
  • The new Teams app might render some experiences unavailable for users. These experiences include the ones that are embedded. Users might have to open them in a new tab, or just switch to the Teams desktop app.
  • Teams users on Chrome will also notice an increased pressure to switch to the new version of Teams, dubbed Teams 2.0, or even download the desktop app if they’re using the classic version of Teams.
  • Teams chat in the Outlook web app and Dynamics 365 will also be affected by the privacy sandboxing policy coming to Chrome.

But those who access Teams for Web, now have another option. teams web firefox safari

It’s too soon to see the impact of these changes when accessing Teams on Chrome, as Google also intends to gradually implement them over 2024. However, users now have Firefox, for Windows devices, and Safari, for Mac devices, to hop on when it comes to accessing Microsoft Teams from the web.

For this platform alone, it would be worth the change, at least for a while, until Google, or Microsoft release updates to make Teams run better on Chrome, eventually.
