The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Returns to PS5, Xbox and PC After 15 Years

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, bringing the 2011 action RPG back to modern platforms.

According to PSU, the remastered release updates the original game for current hardware while retaining its darker take on Middle-earth.

The game follows events happening alongside the Fellowship of the Ring’s journey. Instead of following Frodo and his companions directly, players face a separate threat in northern Middle-earth.

A darker Middle-earth story

The story centers on Agandaur, a Black Númenórean servant who has gathered an army in the ruins of Fornost.

Players travel through locations including Rivendell, Lórien, the Lonely Mountain, and Mirkwood. Aragorn, Gandalf, Elrond, and other familiar characters also appear throughout the campaign.

Three heroes offer different combat styles

Players can choose between three playable characters, each designed around a different approach to combat.

Eradan is a Dúnedain Ranger who uses stealth, bows, and swords. Andriel is an Elven Loremaster focused on magic, healing, and support abilities. Farin is a Dwarven Champion who relies on heavy attacks and greater durability.

Each hero also has customizable skills and abilities, allowing players to adjust their build as they progress.

Beleram can provide support from the air

Players can also summon Beleram, a Great Eagle, during combat.

Beleram can attack enemies from above and provide extra support during difficult encounters. Combined with the three playable heroes, the mechanic gives players several ways to approach battles.

Legacy Edition is available now

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition is available now on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S.

Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 players in Europe will get access on August 18. The PlayStation Store lists the game at $19.99 in the US and £18.99 in the UK.
