new outlook drag emails

The new Outlook will finally be enhanced with the ability to drag and drop emails into the Calendar icon in the app bar to create an event. This essential and handy capability is not currently available in the app, and while we wonder why it took Microsoft so long, we’re glad it’s coming.

The Redmond-based tech giant wants to release it next month, in September, according to the latest entry to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap,

Here’s what the entry says:

Users can drag and drop emails into the Calendar icon on the left app bar of Outlook to create an event. #newoutlookforwindows

Believe it or not, you can’t currently do that. When we tried to drag emails into the new Outlook, the classic STOP emoji (or icon) appeared, as you can see in the featured image above.

Either way, this essential capability is only available to the new Outlook, which recently became widely available to users everywhere. Microsoft has not yet announced whether it will bring it to the classic Outlook.
