Internal Server Error in TurboTax: 3 Ways to Fix it

Many prefer using TurboTax, however, users have reported Internal server error while using the import feature. This can be a problem when filing taxes, but luckily the issue can be easily resolved.

How can I fix the Internal server error in TurboTax?

Before we start, try using an Ethernet connection during the import, as it’s usually more stable than Wi-Fi.

1. Disable VPN and other services

  1. If you have VPN enabled, disable it during the import.
  2. If you have 2-tier logins enabled, disable them as well.
  3. In some instances, you’ll have to disable third-party antivirus and firewall.

Users reported issues with Norton 360 products, but other VPNs might cause this issue.

2. Use Compatibility mode with administrative privileges

  1. Right-click the TurboTax icon and choose Properties.
  2. Navigate to the Compatibility tab, check Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows 7 from the list.

  3. Next, check Run this program as an administrator.

  4. Click Apply and OK to save changes.
  5. Try to run the software again.

If this method works, you’ll have to always use this shortcut to start the software with the necessary privileges.

3. Reinstall the software

  1. Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app.
  2. Navigate to Apps and then choose Installed apps.

  3. Locate TurboTax on the list, click the three dots next to it, and choose Uninstall.

  4. Follow the steps on the screen to complete the process.
  5. After that, download TurboTax and install it again.

As you can see TurboTax Internal server error try again later message is usually caused by a VPN, but lack of administrative privileges can also cause it. However, this can be easily fixed by following our solutions.
