Upcoming Dell XPS 13 Plus will feature Snapdragon X, set to double the battery life

A leaked internal document suggests Dell is moving to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X as the processor choice for its XPS 13 Plus laptop. The company used Intel Alder Lake-P in the older model.
With this change, the Dell XPS 13 Plus will deliver almost double the battery life during local video playback, according to VideoCardz.
The leaked document compares the battery life during video playback of a local file and Netflix streaming both with the new Snapdragon X processor and the Intel Alder Lake-P. I must say, the results look promising!
For local video playback, the battery life increases from 15.45 hours to 29.6 hours (up by 91%) with an FHD+ panel. Then, with a QHD+ panel, it increases from 11.02 to 21.9 hours (up by 98%). Similarly, with the OLED panel, you will see an increase from 9.95 hours to 16.8 hours (up by 68%).
Extended battery life and low cost are two of the primary selling points of the ARM-based Qualcomm Snapdragon X. For the unversed, ARM processors are popular power and cost-efficient alternatives to Intel and AMD chips.
Qualcomm, on its part, is claiming up to 25 hours of continuous use on a single charge with Snapdragon X. The company’s internal test results suggest 40% longer battery life with Office 365 apps, 58% for web browsing, 89% for YouTube streaming, and 100% for Teams video calls, when comparing Snapdragon X Elite with Intel Core Ultra 7.
As for the cost, the leaked document reveals that the processor cost is about to go down by $148, from the earlier $293 to just $145. A part of these savings, if transferred to the buyer, will save you a few bucks.
Dell is expected to launch the XPS 13 Plus laptop for $1199, pitching it directly against Apple’s MacBook Air.
We have previously reported that the Snapdragon X series performs well when gaming and editing. So, running resource-intensive apps won’t be a problem.

If the results are accurate and the Dell XPS 13 Plus benefits from performance upgrades and reduced costs, the Snapdragon X series might find increased integration in more Dell laptops.
