Valve Reportedly Adds Android Upload Options in Steamworks Ahead of Steam Frame Launch

Valve is reportedly preparing Steamworks for the upcoming Steam Frame, adding Android upload options and updated developer workflows. A Reddit post from user u/FantasySynthDev, first spotted by TechPowerUp, suggests that a new toggle allows developers to mark games as compatible with Android.

However, these builds aren’t available for download on Steam yet. This points to preparation for the new hardware rather than immediate consumer access. Alongside the toggle, Valve has updated its documentation to cover Android APK uploads and VR testing workflows.

These updates give developers clearer guidance on preparing games for the Steam Frame, ensuring compatibility and performance when the hardware eventually ships.

Back in earlier announcements, Valve confirmed Android support would be a key feature of the Steam Frame, and these back-end updates appear to deliver on that promise.

As of now, it’s unclear when Android builds will become available for download or how quickly consumers will see the device in stores. That said, the coming months may give a clearer picture as Steamworks integration for Android continues to take shape.

While the Steam Frame and the Steam Machine may not launch soon, the changes suggest the release could still align with the first half of 2026. Valve has not shared pricing information yet, but the focus on developer readiness indicates the company is working to smooth out potential hurdles ahead of release.
