Valve’s New Steam Controller Goes Out of Stock in a Flash, Buyers Report Checkout Errors
Last week, Valve confirmed that the Steam Controller would launch today (May 4). Well, it’s here, and apparently also gone out of stock quickly after a chaotic opening that left many users stuck in checkout loops and payment errors.
As seen in the users’ comment below the official post, some users managed to place orders instantly, while others were blocked by repeated transaction failures during payment processing.
The error message pointed to issues initializing or updating transactions, forcing users to retry multiple times or contact support. In many cases, even Steam Wallet funds did not help complete the purchase.
Valve initially listed delivery timelines at 3 to 5 days, later extending them to 6 to 10 business days. The product page eventually displayed an “Out of Stock” notice, removing it entirely from cart availability.
As of now, there’s no word from Valve on when the Steam Controller will return to wide availability. However, some users briefly reported seeing the product become purchasable again before it disappeared once more (via GameSpot).
As far as features are concerned, Valve has confirmed that the new Steam Controller introduces a puck-based wireless system that also doubles as a charging station. The controller pairs automatically via USB-C once connected to a PC, allowing low-latency wireless gameplay, while a solid white LED signals a stable connection. You can read more about features here. If you are willing to buy it, try your luck by refreshing the Steam Controller’s sale page. The new Steam Controller costs $99 in the US.
