Vivaldi Update Brings Auto-Hide UI, Better Multitasking, and Mail Enhancements
Vivaldi Technologies has released Vivaldi 7.9, bringing a set of usability-focused updates across desktop and mobile platforms. The latest version introduces improvements to full-screen browsing, multitasking, and the built-in Mail client.
The update is now available on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android.
Customizable full-screen mode arrives
Vivaldi 7.9 introduces a new Auto-hide feature designed to improve immersion while browsing. The browser interface can now disappear automatically, giving users more screen space when needed.
Users can choose which elements to hide, including the address bar and tab bar. Moving the cursor near the edges of the screen reveals the interface again, allowing quick access without disrupting the experience.
Split view gets smarter with Follower Tabs
The browser also enhances its split view functionality with a new feature called Follower Tab. This addition makes multitasking more efficient by allowing users to keep their main tab unchanged while opening links in a secondary panel.
Once enabled, any subsequent links automatically open in the split view. Users can access this feature through right-click options, keyboard shortcuts, or mouse gestures, making it flexible for different workflows.
Mail client improvements focus on performance
Vivaldi’s built-in Mail client also receives several updates aimed at usability and efficiency. The composer window is now movable, offering more flexibility when drafting messages.
The update also reduces memory usage, especially for users managing large inboxes. In addition, switching between rich text and plain text modes is now possible with a single click.
Vivaldi isn’t the only browser evolving its feature set. Opera 129 recently launched with its own updates, while Firefox is preparing to introduce split-view functionality and a built-in VPN in an upcoming release.
Meanwhile, Google has faced scrutiny after reportedly promoting a malicious Chrome extension by mistake, highlighting ongoing security concerns in the browser ecosystem.
