Windows 11 is getting an AI File Explorer, and this is what you can do with it

The new Surface Pro 10, and Surface Laptop 6 are reportedly being released this month, on March 21, more specifically, and they will also be Microsoft’s first true AI PCs.

These AI PCs will be different from regular PCs due to their implementation of the newest AI File Explorer, an upcoming Windows 11 feature, that Microsoft will release this fall.

Zac Bowden of Windows Central reported in exclusivity about this upcoming feature, stating that the AI File Explorer will also be the capability that will separate the AI PCs from regular PCs.

What is it, though? Well, AI File Explorer is basically an advanced Windows Copilot that has a built-in history or timeline feature capable of searching everything Windows 11 users tell it to, using natural language.

According to Bowden, the AI File Explorer will have access to everything on Windows 11 and it will greatly ease the way users find documents, chats, or any other files on this operating system.

Assuming you tell it a word, for instance, summer, the AI File Explorer will display all the documents that include or reference the word summer, and it doesn’t have to be explicit, as this feature is also capable of context. With it, the AI File Explorer automatically suggests tasks when opening up an app on Windows 11.

For example, if you were to open up an image, the tool would then suggest an edit in Microsoft Paint, and other similar actions.

As we mentioned earlier in this article, Microsoft is reportedly making this capability available to Windows 11, with the 2024 Update, most likely to be released this fall, in October. The new AI PCs won’t initially have this feature right away, and users of these devices will need to wait for the update, for the new AI File Explorer to be available.
