Windows 11’s New Battery Status Widget Will Soon Help Check Connected Devices' Power at Glance

Microsoft has been making improvements to several parts of Windows 11. From re-introducing movable taskbar to improving boot times, Windows Hello responsiveness, and making File Explorer snappier, the company is doing its bit to live up to users’ expectations. Now, it seems Microsoft is on the way to releasing a handy battery status widget in Windows 11 that gives users a glance at the battery percentage of every gadget connected to their system.

Your PC battery, right alongside everything else connected to it

Citing the feature discovery on Discord, Windows Central’s Zac Bowden today reported that Microsoft is working on a new Widget Board feature for PCs and connected wireless devices. The widget is reportedly still under development, so it’s not usable just yet. However, references and assets already appear inside recent Windows 11 preview builds.

As seen in the screenshot shared by the news outlet, the new Windows 11 battery widget is designed to show your PC battery level first, followed by connected wireless accessories. Each device gets its own icon, name, and battery percentage.

Microsoft also appears to be working on indicators for charging status. Energy Saver information can also appear for supported devices. The widget will reportedly support both light and dark themes. It is also expected to work directly from the Windows 11 lock screen.

If Microsoft goes on to ship this feature to the masses, checking accessories’ remaining power will be much quicker. You could potentially see your PC, headphones, mouse, keyboard, or other supported devices together.

No confirmed release timeline yet

All that said, there is no confirmed release date for the Windows 11 battery widget yet. Neither has Microsoft announced anything about it. We expect to get more details only when Microsoft starts rolling out the feature to Windows Insiders.

For now, Windows 11 users will have to wait. But having every connected device’s battery status in one place would be a welcome upgrade.
