Microsoft closed last week with a new set of Windows Insider builds, and confirmed what many had already suspected. Windows 11 version 25H2 is now official.

The latest Dev Channel build 26200.5670 marks the first time version 25H2 shows up directly in Settings > System > About and winver. The Beta Channel build, however, remains on version 24H2.

The update adds 1Password passkey support, allowing Windows Security to use and save passkeys directly within 1Password—though it currently requires the 1Password Beta app.

Elsewhere, there’s a wave of fixes rolling out gradually. File Explorer is now more stable, with thumbnails no longer disappearing and Home crashes addressed. The Start menu gets polish too, resolving duplicate entries and animation bugs when expanding folders.

A major typing issue linked to ctfmon.exe is also fixed, along with a memory leak related to the lock screen slideshow. Microsoft also corrected a long-standing audio bug, restoring the actual Windows 11 boot sound after users reported Windows Vista’s chime playing instead. And yes, view settings in File Explorer are now sticking again.

Known issues still linger. Some Insiders are running into update rollbacks with 0x80070005 errors, while Bluetooth Xbox controller users are seeing crashes.

Microsoft has provided a Device Manager workaround for that. Touch interactions on the new Start menu remain flaky, and File Explorer’s AI actions still have accessibility quirks for Narrator users.

It’s a packed release, and while 25H2 doesn’t have a public launch date yet, it’s now showing up clearly on supported devices, making the transition from 24H2 even smoother through enablement packages.
