After weeks of leaks and speculation, Microsoft has quietly confirmed the existence of Windows 11 version 25H2. Starting last week, users in the Dev Channel started noticing a version labeled as 25H2 under Settings > System > About and in the winver dialog.

This confirmation comes alongside the release of last week’s Dev and Beta builds, which feature nearly identical changelogs. However, the bigger note is that Microsoft has now formally acknowledged the next Windows 11 feature update.

What to expect from the 25H2 rollout

In a detailed blog post aimed at IT admins, Microsoft shared how the upgrade to version 25H2 will work. The update shares the same servicing branch as 24H2, meaning it’ll install via a lightweight enablement package. For most users already on 24H2, the update should require only a single restart.

If your device is running anything older than 24H2, though, the update process won’t be so seamless. These PCs will need to go through the full upgrade via Windows Update or Autopatch, which typically involves more time and a couple of reboots.

Support timeline and release window

Microsoft says version 25H2 will begin rolling out later this year, but hasn’t given a specific date. As usual, Enterprise editions will get 36 months of support, while Home and Pro editions will receive 24 months.

Interestingly, clues about this update started showing up earlier in the form of version strings and feature hints. You can check out the initial 25H2 leak here, which suggested this would be more of a modest feature update.
