Windows 11 is growing on Steam

We don’t know exactly if Windows 11’s slight downfall from the latest months is due to Microsoft’s aggressive push for AI, but now we know that gamers are more prone to adopt the latest version, thanks to the latest data from Valve’s Steam.

According to their latest May 2024 report, Windows 11 gained almost one percent off from Windows 10, Windows 7 and other OSes. Just to be clear, we’re talking about Windows 11 popularity among users on Steam, not global market share.

Even so, the most popular OS on Steam is the old Windows 10 with 50.35%, following a slight decline on 0.67%.

So, gamers are definitely starting to favor Windows 11, and you might think that those 0.93% popularity increase might be insignificant. In fact, according to the latest data, Steam has surpassed 132 million active users. That means that roughly 1.22 million Steam users switched or upgraded to Windows 11, which is not a small number.

We also have some other interesting data we can chew on. For instance, the data about graphics card usage. NVIDIA is leading all across the board with GeForce RTX 3060 being the most popular, with 6.01% of the gamer’s choices.

Another fun fact is that 58.08% of the gamers on Steam still enjoy their titles on the old, FullHD resolution (1920×1080 pixels). About the same percentage of users also have drives of 1TB or larger.

So, if you’re a PC gamer, it seems like all the roads converge to the same outcome, a Windows 11 upgrade.
