I’m still puzzled why Microsoft keeps adding new features to Windows 10 although its support will end in just 10 months. It is probably because Windows 11 keeps dropping market share and the users are not willing to upgrade. After all, you can extend the Windows 10 support for 3 years.
Anyway, Microsoft rolled out a new Windows 10 Insider Preview build, KB5050081, with plenty of changes. However, not all of them are that popular. The new Outlook app becomes the default email client, but you may get rid of it if you want and Microsoft even provided the ways to do it.
A new notable improvement for Windows 10 is a new Calendar app. This comes as a welcome surprise for everyone who complained when the Mail & Calendar was retired.
The phantomofeath user provided on X a screenshot of the new app in Windows 10 and it looks really great.
The new Calendar app not only pinpoints special events but also displays the weather forecast discretely under the calendar if you click on a date.
As expected, the new Calendar app in Windows 10 blends seamlessly with the new Outlook app so you can book meetings and set up events right from the email client.
So, why is Microsoft still investing in Windows 10? In a few words, it’s still better to keep users on Windows 10 than lose them for other OSes. There are plenty of alternatives to Windows 11 and users are starting to consider them in the advent of Windows 10’s demise. I wouldn’t be too surprised even if Microsoft decides later in the year to push the end of support day for Windows 10.
