With KB5044384, Windows 11 can finally turn off notifications from specific apps for good

Microsoft has begun rolling out Windows 11 Build 26100.2152 (KB5044384) to Insiders in the Release Preview Channel. The update contains new features and improvements, including changes to the Start menu, notifications, Windows Sandbox Client Preview, detach functionality for virtual hard disks, the Wi-Fi password dialog, and more.

In the gradual rollout category, Microsoft is adding the ability for Windows 11 users to directly access content on their Android device from their PC’s Start menu. The feature will let users check their phone’s battery status, check notifications, including voice calls, view photos from their device, and more. The feature will only be available to Android users connected to Windows 11 via the Phone Link app, and Microsoft says support for iOS devices will be coming later.

Additionally, Windows 11 users are getting a new option to stop suggestions to turn off notifications from specific apps. Users can toggle off the suggestions by selecting the ellipses in a notification or heading to Settings > System > Notifications.

The Windows Sandbox Client Preview is also being introduced to Windows 11 Build 26100.2152. This preview adds the ability to copy and paste text between the host and guest, control audio and video input, share folders with the host at runtime, and more.

KB5044384 introduces a detach button for virtual hard disks in the Settings app and the Windows 11 visual design for the Wi-Fi password dialog in the Network & Internet section of the Settings app.

Among the features and improvements available to all users immediately is the ability to configure the Microsoft Copilot key on the keyboard to open the Microsoft 365 app or another app. Microsoft Copilot is a code-writing AI that suggests code completions and helps write functions.

This update also addresses an issue that prevented users from viewing some parts of the UI when running certain apps and fixes a problem with HTA optional components (OC) not being in ARM64 Windows PE.

KB5044384 further resolves a bug that caused win32kbase.sys to create live kernel debug files, a stop error that occurred during the shutdown, an issue that prevented users from signing into their account from the web, and errors when running the sfc /scannow command.

This release also adds drivers to the list at risk of Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver (BYOVD) attacks and includes an optional update that can be manually downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
