Windows 11 Build 22631.4825 (KB5050092) is now available for insiders in the Release Preview Channel on Windows 11, version 23H2 (Build 22631). This build comes packed with new features and improvements, some of which users are gradually implementing in this channel, including changes for:
- Taskbar: This update enhances the previews that appear when users hover their cursor over apps on the taskbar, improving their animations.
- Windows Studio Effects: On devices with a neural processing unit (NPU), an icon will now appear in the system tray when a Windows Studio Effects-supporting app is in use. Users can select this icon to open the Studio Effects page in Quick Settings. Hovering over the icon will display a tooltip with the app using the camera.
- Work Across Devices: Windows 11 now lets users continue working on a file from their Microsoft OneDrive on a locked PC if they were previously editing the file from an iOS or Android phone. To use this feature, users must sign in to their PC and OneDrive with the same Microsoft account within five minutes of using their phone. Supported file types include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and PDF files.
- Fonts: Windows 11 introduces Simsun-ExtG, an extension of the Simsun font family designed to support an additional 9,753 simplified Chinese ideographs from Unicode Extensions G, H, and I. According to the release notes, “some apps might not be able to display these new extension characters yet.”
- File Explorer: Users can now quickly access items others have shared, be it files, emails, Teams chats, and more. This feature is limited to those signed into Windows using a Microsoft account or Microsoft Entra ID account. Windows’ new Shared tab, which has replaced the old OneDrive tab, can be found on the File Explorer Home page.
