Now you can control how much RAM Edge is using

We reported that Microsoft was testing the Resource controls in Edge. After almost a year, the feature finally made it into the stable version of Edge. This can be extremely useful when you’re gaming, and it makes it closer to how Opera GX is dealing with resources.

Within Edge’s settings, you can now specify the maximum amount of RAM the browser can use, ranging from 1GB up to 32GB. Of course, you may also leave the Resource controls disabled and Edge will manage RAM consumption.

You can also choose when these limits apply: either Always or only When you’re PC gaming. This flexibility ensures that your system’s resources are optimized based on your current activities.

For gamers, having a browser consume excessive RAM can lead to performance issues during gameplay. By capping Edge’s memory usage, you free up resources, ensuring a smoother gaming experience. However, setting the limit too low might cause the browser to run slower or refresh tabs more frequently, so finding a balance is key.

In addition to the RAM limiter, Microsoft is enhancing Edge’s performance by migrating features to WebUI 2.0, resulting in faster load times for settings and other interface elements.

To try out this feature, update your Microsoft Edge to the latest version and navigate to the performance settings to configure your preferred RAM usage limits. You can get directly to this feature by entering edge://settings/system in the address bar.
