XBOX may have a surprise game announcement planned around Gamescom 2026, according to a new rumor from insider NateTheHate2.

The insider says he has heard about a notable XBOX announcement, although he is still trying to confirm whether Microsoft plans to reveal it during Gamescom itself.

The rumored project would reportedly be a new entry in an existing XBOX IP. It is not Banjo-Kazooie, and a third-party studio rather than a Microsoft-owned developer is said to be working on it.

The rumored XBOX game could be a big surprise

Windows Central editor Jez Corden has also heard about the rumored announcement.

Corden described the potential reveal as a “pretty big surprise” if the information proves accurate. However, he also stressed that the details remain under investigation.

That means there is no guarantee Microsoft will announce the game during Gamescom 2026. The project could appear later, even if the current information about the title itself turns out to be accurate.

For now, neither XBOX nor the unnamed third-party developer has confirmed the rumored game.

Gamescom gives XBOX several chances to reveal it

Gamescom Opening Night Live will take place on August 25, giving XBOX one possible stage for a surprise announcement.

Microsoft will also hold dedicated XBOX Gamescom livestreams on August 26 and August 27.

Those events give the company several opportunities to reveal an unannounced project, although the rumor does not confirm which presentation, if any, could feature the game.

Even if the title skips Gamescom, reports suggest XBOX may still have a surprise announcement planned for the near future.

XBOX has plenty happening this month

The rumored reveal comes during a busy period for the XBOX ecosystem.

XBOX Game Pass is losing five games at the end of August. On the other hand, more than 30 games are coming to the XBOX platform this week.

XBOX Cloud Gaming also recently added 85 new titles to Stream Your Own Game, expanding the number of owned games users can stream through the service.
