Xbox September Update Fixes Search, Queue, and Controller Bugs

The Xbox September update is now rolling out to all console users, bringing fixes for several annoying system bugs.

Microsoft released the September 2026 public Xbox system update on September 22. Unlike Xbox Insider builds, this release is available to everyone with a supported Xbox console.

The update is relatively small, with Microsoft focusing primarily on bug fixes, system stability, and performance improvements rather than introducing major new features.

Xbox fixes Share button remapping, search, and queue crashes

One of the fixes addresses an issue that prevented players from remapping the Share button through the Xbox Accessories app.

Microsoft also corrected search errors that could appear when users entered certain search terms. Another fix targets crashes on the Manage queue page under My games & apps.

The company also included additional stability and performance improvements, although it did not provide further details about those changes.

Xbox users can manually check for the update by opening Settings > System > Updates.

Disc-to-digital feature remains limited to Insiders

One feature that did not arrive with the September public update is Xbox’s disc-to-digital functionality.

Despite Ubisoft adopting the disc-to-digital feature, Microsoft has not yet released it to the wider Xbox user base. The feature remains available only to Xbox Insiders for now.

The technology could eventually give players another way to move from physical games to digital ownership, but this update focuses strictly on fixes and improvements.

In other Xbox news, Xbox wants to know if players still want physical disc support on Project Helix. Microsoft is also testing new ideas around achievements, with the new Mythic Achievement appearing with a unique unlock sound in the Xbox PC app.
