What causes the error code 0x8004de44?

If youโ€™ve tried to log in to your OneDrive account but keep getting the There was a problem signing you in. Please try again in a few minutes (Error code 0x8004de44), below are some possible causes:

  • Your anti-virus software is blocking Onedrive login – Some antivirus programs and firewalls tend to block certain programs.
  • Internet connection is not working – An unstable or slow internet connection may prevent access to your account.
  • Problem with your account – If you’ve been trying to log in, but keep getting an error message, it’s possible that there’s something wrong with your account. 
  • Unrecognized device –  This can happen if you try logging into Onedrive from an unfamiliar device or browser especially if you have enabled multi-factor authentication
  • Invalid email address – It is possible that the email youโ€™re trying to log in with is expired, and thatโ€™s why you canโ€™t access OneDrive.

How do I fix error code 0x8004de44?

A few preliminary checks before the advanced solutions include:

1.  Run the Windows Store apps troubleshooter

2. Reset OneDrive

  1. Hit the Windows key and click on Settings.settings windows 11
  2. Click on Apps on the left pane then Apps & features on the right pane.
  3. Locate the OneDrive app, click on the three vertical ellipses, and select Advanced options.
  4. Click on Reset.

When you reset an application in Windows, it removes all of the information and settings for that app. The reset process can be used to fix a misbehaving application or to return it to its default state.

3. Reinstall OneDrive

  1. Hit the Windows key and click on Settings.settings windows 11
  2. Click on Apps on the left pane then Apps & features on the right pane.
  3. Locate the OneDrive app, click on the three vertical ellipses, and select Uninstall.
  4. Confirm Uninstall in the next prompt.

Also, when uninstalling, ensure you remove any software leftovers. There may be corrupt files present that could interfere with a fresh install of the application and cause the same issues.
