Microsoft Teams makes it way easier to join meetings with these 2 new features

Microsoft Teams will debut 2 new features in April that will make it easier to join meetings on the platform, according to the latest entries to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap.

Firstly, we’re talking about shorter meeting URLs, and Microsoft says they will be released on all platforms. Basically, the Redmond-based tech giant is making it easier to share Teams meeting URLs by eliminating unnecessary symbols from them.

Currently, Teams meeting URLs can be quite long, which makes them hard to manage sometimes, especially on mobile devices, so this feature is more than welcomed.

Secondly, Microsoft is going to introduce the ability to join Teams meetings through QR codes on Teams Rooms on Windows using Teams mobile, and users will only have to scan the QR code with their phones to join the conversation.

After scanning the QR code, the meeting will automatically be open on Teams for Mobile, and if the users doesn’t have the app, then the feature will redirect the user to download the app, so they can join the conversation automatically after installing it.

However, managers should rest assured that the QR code can be controlled through various policies, so only those who need to be in the meeting will be able to access it, according to the feature’s description.

Users can quickly join a meeting from a Teams Room even without forwarding the invite to the room calendar by scanning a QR code using their native mobile camera. The user will then enter the Teams mobile companion mode experience on their mobile. The QR code is found on the Teams Room home screen and can also be scanned to start an ad-hoc meeting or cast content from their mobile to the Teams Room display. If the user does not have the Teams mobile app, they will be directed to download it after scanning the QR code. IT admins can control the QR code feature in the device settings and the Teams admin center. This feature supports cross-tenant meetings when the organization settings and user policies allow it.

So Teams for Mobile users should be excited about these new capabilities coming to the platform in April. Microsoft recently unveiled that users will soon be able to record the Teams meeting on Teams for Android, and, apparently, the Redmond-based tech giant will soon debut the ability to use customized emojis in the platform.
