Microsoft Planner Redesign Starts Rolling Out in September

Microsoft first previewed an early version of its redesigned Planner interface in February 2026, and the updated experience is now getting closer to release.

The company has added the refreshed Planner experience to the Microsoft 365 roadmap under ID 568791. Microsoft lists the feature as in development, with rollout scheduled to begin in September 2026.

The update aims to simplify navigation while bringing the different Planner experiences closer together.

Microsoft Planner is getting a redesigned interface

Microsoft says Planner will receive a cleaner and more modern interface, alongside improvements that should make navigating the service easier.

The redesign also introduces responsive layouts designed to work better across different screen sizes. Microsoft wants Planner in Microsoft Teams and Planner on the web to offer a more consistent experience.

That should reduce some of the differences users currently encounter when switching between the two versions of the service.

Goals will be available with basic Planner plans

Goals is another notable part of the refreshed Planner experience. Microsoft previously announced that the feature would become available with basic plans instead of remaining limited to more expensive subscriptions.

Goals lets users connect individual tasks and plan work with broader objectives. Users will not need to upgrade their Planner subscription specifically to access the feature.

The refreshed Planner interface and related capabilities should start reaching users in September 2026.

Microsoft has also recently made Planner Agent available to all Microsoft 365 Copilot users, while New Outlook is getting Microsoft Planner integration.
