Microsoft Caught in the Middle of GTA 6 Leak Hunt
GTA 6 controversies are continuing ahead of the game’s release, with Take-Two now using subpoenas to identify the people allegedly behind recent gameplay leaks.
Take-Two targets GTA 6 leakers
A group calling itself Cyberleeks recently began distributing GTA 6 footage on X and other platforms.
The group has also threatened to release more GTA 6 gameplay unless Rockstar or Take-Two meets its demands.
Take-Two has responded with DMCA takedown notices targeting the leaked material.
The situation has also attracted attention from investors. Take-Two’s share price fell roughly 2% over the past week, although the stock remained around 6% higher for the year.
Take-Two subpoenas Microsoft, Discord, and Google
Take-Two has now filed a DMCA subpoena in New York City seeking records that could help identify the people or organizations operating under the Cyberleeks name.
The requests target Microsoft, Discord, and Google.
Take-Two said it intends to use the requested information solely to protect its intellectual property rights.
The company specifically requested Microsoft business and investigative records connected to Cyberleeks. The wording of the request suggests Microsoft may already have investigated activity related to the leak internally.
Microsoft confirms cooperation with Rockstar
One Cyberleaks member has also claimed to possess a playable GTA 6 build.
Rumors have suggested that the leaked build could have originated from an Xbox development kit, although no one has confirmed that claim. Another possibility is that the build interacted with Microsoft or Xbox infrastructure through telemetry, online services, or other systems.
Microsoft confirmed that it is cooperating with Take-Two and Rockstar Games.
Microsoft CTO Scott Van Vilet said the company is working with both firms to help protect their creative works and intellectual property.
Take-Two is also seeking records from Discord and Google, which could potentially help investigators connect accounts or activity to the people behind Cyberleeks.
