Pre-Orders for Valve's Steam Frame is Live With $1,059 Starting Price

After accidentally leaking early via Linus Tech Tips’ ShortCircuit YouTube channel, Valve’s Steam Frame is finally out officially. The company has finally put a price tag on its much-anticipated Steam Frame. The standalone VR headset starts at $1,059, while the 1TB model costs $1,299. Pre-orders are now open, but getting one will not be as simple as placing an order.

Steam Frame pricing is finally official

The 256GB Steam Frame starts at $1,059, while upgrading to 1TB pushes the price to $1,299. Valve is using a randomized reservation lottery for pre-orders, similar to its Steam Machine approach.

Sign-ups remain open until September 17. Valve expects to send the first batch of purchase invitations on September 18. Valve has also revealed pricing for several Steam Frame accessories. The power supply costs $29 separately, which surprisingly does not come included with the headset.

The Ergonomic Accessories Kit costs $59, while the Accessory Replacement Kit is priced at $49. The latter includes replacement parts for the face gasket and cushions.

Valve appears to be facing the same memory problem again

The Steam Frame’s pricing follows the same pattern as Valve’s Steam Machine. That device launched in June with a surprisingly high $1,049 starting price.

Valve previously blamed DRAM and storage shortages for pushing Steam Machine costs higher. The same memory pressure now appears to be affecting the Steam Frame. Reports previously suggested Valve wanted to price the Frame below the $999 Valve Index. That target now looks increasingly difficult to achieve.

Interestingly, this could become another example of rising memory costs affecting gaming hardware. The Steam Frame is certainly not the first device facing higher costs.
