Xbox October 2026 Update Brings Mythic Achievements and More
Microsoft has started rolling out the October 2026 Xbox console update, bringing 10 new features, dashboard improvements, and several bug fixes to Xbox consoles.
The update began reaching players on October 28, following testing with Xbox Insiders. Major additions include Mythic Achievements, customizable startup animations, improved game save management, and higher-quality Remote Play.
All new features in Xbox October 2026 update
According to the official Xbox update notes, one of the biggest additions is Mythic Achievements, which reward players who unlock every original achievement in a game. DLC and post-launch achievements do not count, and players keep their Mythic status permanently once they earn it.
Microsoft has also improved the Disc-to-Digital License Portal, allowing players to manage inaccessible licenses directly on their consoles instead of opening a webpage. Players can also view, sort, and delete unused local game saves to free up storage.
Another addition lets Xbox owners choose different startup animations, including designs from the Xbox One era through the latest generation. Xbox Series X|S also gains Remote Play support for streaming up to 1440p with higher video bitrates on compatible devices.
The update improves party chat reliability and security while giving players more control over their dashboards. Users can remove games and apps from their recent activity lists or press the Right thumbstick on Home to hide dashboard elements and display their background.
Microsoft has also added search options within My games & apps, achievement lists, and player profiles. Cloud-played games now appear automatically in My games & apps, while downloads can continue during cloud streaming when network conditions allow.
Finally, Xbox profile badges now show sharper images and more details about when and how players earned them.
Microsoft also fixes Xbox dashboard and download issues
Beyond the new features, the October update addresses several problems affecting console performance and usability.
Microsoft has fixed an issue that caused the Home screen to refresh continuously, along with a separate problem that sometimes left consoles displaying a black screen during startup.
The update also resolves unexpected download interruptions, missing images and text for certain compilation discs, and selection focus problems in My games & apps.
Players with large game libraries should also see improved memory management, stability, and performance.
How to install the October 2026 Xbox update
Players can check for it manually by opening Settings > System > Updates and installing any available system update.
Those who prefer automatic updates can leave their consoles configured to download and install system updates as Microsoft continues the rollout.
