By switching from Manifest V2 to Manifest V3, Google said goodbye to the best ad blocker, UBlock Origin in Chrome. However, the extension is still being supported in Microsoft Edge, where it may eventually stop working at some point when Edge enforces Manifest V3 for extensions.
But Chrome is used by most users around the world across platforms. As of now, it still holds, but this may change later when it comes to mobile, especially Android, where Chrome doesn’t support extensions. Recently, Microsoft Edge on Android started supporting a limited number of extensions. Guess what? Recent news gave hope—at least UBlock Origin Lite, and now the origin version is also available in Edge Canary.
So this could be welcomed by users, as the built-in AdBlock Plus is also good at blocking ads, including on YouTube. This may make Edge for Android, with extension support, a solid choice—offering a built-in ad blocker, supporting both versions of UBlock Origin, as well as Copilot and a Password Manager that can alert you when your passwords are found to be breached in an online leak.
The UBO developer confirms that Edge Mobile officially supports UBO Lite. This further confirms what we’re seeing, and hopefully, Microsoft will make both versions of UBO permanently available in the Edge release amid the Manifest V3 transition.
