Microsoft has revealed a new feature coming to the Dev Home app preview for Windows 11 which will allow users more control over their Windows experience. “Advanced Windows Settings” will host a range of developer options and greatly simplify how these preferences are customized.

The feature was announced on the Dev Home Github page, along with some proof-of-concept images. Microsoft is asking for user feedback on this new feature. In the Overview section Microsoft states that Advanced Windows Settings,

“Would give developers greater autonomy over their machine settings + behaviors, and provide quick access to adjust new/experimental Windows OS features that are centered around developer workflows, such as native File Explorer Version Control Integration.”

The Overview adds that “This feature…would allow users to quickly optimize, tweak, and set up their Windows machine to their ideal state.”

As seen in these mockup images, this would give Power Users easier access to more advanced options. The post emphasizes that “This feature is not meant to replace existing settings that are found in the Windows Settings App.” Nor is it intended to replace existing options such as the “For Developers” settings page in the Windows Settings App. Rather, Advanced Windows Settings is intended to make it easier for advanced users to tweak OS behaviors and discover advanced settings that can improve system performance.
