AMD Announces EXPO Ultra Low Latency DDR5 Feature at Computex 2026
As VideoCardz writes, AMD officially announced EXPO Ultra Low Latency, or EXPO ULL, during Computex 2026 alongside the new Radeon RX 9070 GRE graphics card. The new feature expands AMD’s existing EXPO DDR5 memory technology and focuses on reducing memory latency for Ryzen gaming systems.
EXPO ULL arrives as part of the EXPO 1.2 update and introduces a new low-latency memory profile designed for supported DDR5 kits on AM5 motherboards.
AMD EXPO ULL targets lower DDR5 latency
AMD says EXPO ULL gives DDR5 memory kits tighter automatic tuning compared to existing EXPO profiles. The company claims the feature can reduce memory latency by around 5 ns to 7 ns compared with standard DDR5-6000 configurations.
The new profile automatically adjusts several low-level memory parameters. Earlier references to EXPO 1.2 mentioned tuning controls including ULL Enable, tREFI, tRRDS, tWR, and VDDP voltage. AMD says motherboard BIOS updates will handle most of the tuning automatically for compatible systems.
AMD claims gaming FPS improvements with EXPO ULL
According to AMD, EXPO ULL can improve both average frame rates and 1% low performance in games. Compared with standard JEDEC DDR5 memory, AMD claims users may see up to 13% higher average FPS and up to 15% better 1% low FPS.
Compared with existing EXPO memory profiles, AMD says EXPO ULL can still deliver up to 4% higher average FPS and up to 4% better 1% low FPS. AMD says the internal testing used a Ryzen 7 9700X platform across more than 30 games.
The focus on 1% low improvements may help reduce stutter and improve frame pacing in CPU-heavy titles.
EXPO 1.2 expands AMD DDR5 memory tuning
EXPO ULL is part of the broader EXPO 1.2 update for AM5 systems. AMD appears to be pushing DDR5 optimization further as Ryzen 9000 desktop processors mature.
Recent AGESA 1.3.0.1 and 1.3.0.1b firmware releases already introduced expanded DDR5 tuning controls for AM5 motherboards. EXPO ULL builds on those changes with a more aggressive low-latency preset.
The feature still depends heavily on motherboard vendors and memory compatibility. Full support will require BIOS updates from board manufacturers.
Memory brands preparing EXPO ULL kits
AMD confirmed several memory partners are preparing EXPO ULL-certified DDR5 kits, including G.SKILL, Kingston FURY, KLEVV, Lexar, TeamGroup, V-Color, XPG by ADATA, and Origin Code. These kits are expected to launch in June 2026.
AMD continues expanding the AM5 ecosystem
AMD has spent the past year focusing heavily on AM5 platform optimization, especially around DDR5 compatibility and memory stability.
EXPO ULL shows AMD is now targeting lower latency and smoother gaming performance rather than only pushing higher memory frequencies. The feature could become particularly attractive for Ryzen gamers looking to maximize 1% low FPS performance without manual memory tuning.
With Ryzen 9000 systems already benefiting from improved DDR5 support, EXPO ULL may become another selling point for AM5 gaming builds later this year.
