At Computex 2025, AMD unveiled the Radeon RX 9060 XT with two memory options: a $299 model with 8GB VRAM and a $349 version with 16GB. That’s a 16.7% markup for double the memory. But the cheaper 8GB variant is stirring debate—and not in a good way.
Many gamers are criticizing the 8GB card, arguing it’s not enough for modern titles. The conversation echoes the ongoing backlash NVIDIA has faced over VRAM limits on its midrange GPUs. Unlike the NVIDIA RTX 5060, which only comes in 8GB, AMD at least gives users a choice.
Still, that hasn’t stopped the complaints about AMD’s Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB VRAM from rolling in. Frank Azor, AMD’s Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions and Gaming Marketing, took to social media to defend the decision. He emphasized that 1080p eSports games still dominate worldwide and don’t need more than 8GB. In a post on X, Azor noted:
Majority of gamers are still playing at 1080p and have no use for more than 8GB of memory.
We wouldn’t build it if there wasn’t a market for it.
While Azor’s views are valid for many reasons, the pricing of the 8GB VRAM model still remains a concern. At $299, some feel the AMD’s 8GB VRAM card is pushing the limit. Not to forget, AMD claims the 16GB version outperforms NVIDIA’s 8GB 5060 Ti, which costs $379.
