After multiple rumors and leaks, ASUS has launched yet another ROG XBOX Ally handheld. To celebrate 20 years of the Republic of Gamers (ROG) brand, ASUS has officially announced the ROG XBOX Ally X20, a special-edition handheld that finally brings an OLED display to the Ally lineup. The new model comes with upgraded controls, fresh hardware, and a bundled pair of gaming-focused AR glasses.

ASUS finally gives the Ally lineup an OLED upgrade

For the first time, the ROG XBOX Ally family is moving to OLED. The company has equipped the ROG Xbox Ally X20 with a 7.4-inch Nebula HDR OLED panel featuring a 120Hz refresh rate, FreeSync Premium Pro support, Dolby Vision, and up to 1,400 nits of peak brightness. Apparently, the cooling system inside the handheld has also been redesigned to better manage temperatures around the OLED display.

Under the hood, the ROG XBOX Ally X20 packs AMD’s Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor alongside 24GB of LPDDR5X memory and 1TB of PCIe 4.0 storage. ASUS is also highlighting support for Auto SR upscaling, a feature previously limited to Copilot+ PCs that can boost performance while maintaining image quality.

In addition, the ROG XBOX Ally X20 comes with the new TMR joysticks designed to improve precision and durability. That comes alongside a redesigned Transforming D-Pad that can switch between four-way and eight-way configurations.

Bundled with the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 AR glasses

The company is bundling the ROG XBOX Ally X20 handheld with the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 AR glasses, which can project a virtual 171-inch display and support refresh rates up to 240Hz. The glasses connect via USB-C and are designed to work seamlessly alongside the handheld.

That said, the OLED screen may end up stealing the spotlight regardless. Ever since Valve introduced the Steam Deck OLED, players have been waiting for ASUS to make a similar move. Now it finally has, and it appears the company wanted its 20th anniversary celebration to make a statement while doing it. Speaking of handhelds, let’s not forget that Acer has also announced the Predator Atlas 8 with Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor.
