build 25905

As you may know, Patch Tuesday updates are live on Windows 11 now. The package brought a lot of new features, and it addressed a lot of vulnerabilities. You’ll be able to fix your PC much faster now, with a new way to capture Live Kernel Memory dump files.

You’ll also be able to the VPN icon on your Wi-Fi network, so you can now know that your network is safe and secure. And voice commands are finally here as well. When it comes to security, the latest Patch Tuesday updates address 132 CVEs: 9 are Critical, 121 of them are listed as important, and 2 are advisories.

And since Patch Tuesday is out, there is a new build in the Canary Insider Program, as well. Insider Build 25905 has been released on the channel and it brings a lot of changes, improvements, and some new features.

However, there is a catch. The build is not offered to PCs and laptops with an ASUS motherboard. Microsoft has not elaborated on the matter, but it seems it’s a known issue. So for now, if you are in the Insider Program and your PC has an ASUS motherboard, Build 25905 is not available to you.

What is coming in Build 25905?

There are new features from the Dev Channel, including Dev Drive, Backup and Restore improvements (Windows Backup), Dynamic Lighting, the Windows App SDK version of File Explorer and Gallery, and many more.

The other new features coming in Build 25905 are:

  • Rust in the Windows Kernel – which offers advantages in reliability and security over traditional programs written in C/C++.
  • Support for Arm32 UWP applications is removed – and any installed Arm32 applications will no longer launch on your device.
  • New PostAuthenticationAction support – which will help you terminate individual processes in Windows LAPS.

Changes and Improvements

[Emoji]

  • With the update of our color font format to COLRv1, Windows is now able to display richer emoji with a 3D like appearance with support coming soon to some apps and browsers. These emoji use gradients to bring the design style that our customers have been asking for. The new emoji will bring more expression to your communications.build 25905

[Zune]

  • In celebration of Marvel Studio’s Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, we temporarily re-launched Zune.net last month. We also took the opportunity to fix an issue that was causing some challenges in getting the original Zune drivers to install in Windows 11 with this build in the Canary Channel. So now it should be easier to use your (totally unsupported and still discontinued) Zune on Windows 11. Over time, the fix will make its way through the Insider Channels and eventually to all Windows 11 customers. For fun, check out how Scott Hanselman brought a few Zunes back to life.

Known issues

  • [NEW] This build will not be offered to ASUS devices or PCs with ASUS motherboards.
  • [NEW] Ethernet-connected devices may lose network connectivity after updating to this build. Unplugging the ethernet cable and re-plugging the cable in should resolve the issue.
