When a new operating system shows up, everyone is talking about the tricks that will make the experience of using it much better. In this article, we’ll show you something very useful, which it’s not only relevant to Windows 10, as it could be used in other Windows operating systems, as well.

Imagine this, you’re in the middle of some important work, you’re writing an essay, some kind of report, or something similar, and you accidentally press Caps Lock, but you’re not aware of it. Once you realized it, you’ll have to edit a couple of sentences, and waste valuable time, which could be very annoying. Luckily there’s a solution for this problem with Caps Lock.

In Windows 7, 8 and 10 you’re able to set a warning sound when you press Caps Lock, Num Lock or Scroll lock key. And we’ll tell you exactly what are the steps to follow.

Turn on Caps Lock, Num Lock or Scroll lock key notifications

So, if you want to make Windows 10 play a notification sound when pressing Caps Lock, Num Lock or Scroll lock key, follow the instructions listed below.

Setting this warning sound is very easy, and it will take just a few moments of your time. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Go to Search and type control panel
  2. Open Control Panel and click on Ease of Access Centerease of access control panel
  3. Go to Make the keyboard easier to usemake keyboard easier use
  4. Check Turn on Toggle Keys, under Make it easier to type and click OK

turn on toggle keys

Now you have Scroll, Num and Caps lock warning enabled, and you don’t have to worry if you accidentally press one of these buttons, because you’ll hear a sound every time you do. And this is how you turn on Caps Lock sound in Windows 10.

As I said, this trick doesn’t work for Windows 10 Technical Preview only, as it could be used on other Windows operating systems, which is great, because you don’t have to search for another solutions if you’re using Windows 7 or Windows 8.

Speaking of Caps, Num and Scroll Lock, there are many dedicated software out there that warn you in different ways if you pressed the respective keys. Basically, these tools work by highlighting your Caps, Num and Scroll Lock key when they are on or off. They’ll add an icon to the Windows system tray or even balloon pop-ups or audio notifications. We already compiled a list of the best such tool, and you can read this guide to learn more.

How do I get rid of the Caps Lock notification in Windows 10?

Now, if you want to disablethe  Caps Lock notification ( as well as the  Num Lock or Scroll Lock sound), all you need to do is follow the steps listed above, but this time uncheck the option Turn on Toggle Keys, and that’s it.
