OpenAI has stayed busy lately, with plans to test ads in the US for certain ChatGPT tiers. However, that is not the only change in motion, as the company also works on a new ChatGPT feature set.

OpenAI quietly tests major ChatGPT update with task and workflow features

As Bleeping Computer reports, OpenAI is internally testing a new ChatGPT web update that could roll out in the coming weeks. Researchers spotted the changes through references shared on social media.

The leaked update includes mentions of a feature codenamed “Salute.” Based on the discovered references, Salute allows users to create tasks that support file uploads and progress tracking. This points to ChatGPT evolving beyond standard chat into a more structured task and workflow tool.

Developers uncovered the feature through internal code and web application references. OpenAI has not officially announced the update, and testing continues behind the scenes.

ChatGPT may gain smarter models, secure tunnels, and editable code blocks

The leaked references also mention an “is model preferred” flag. This suggests ChatGPT could automatically select models optimized for local business, restaurant, or hotel results inside map-based business widgets.

Another notable discovery involves Secure Tunnel functionality. According to the reference, Secure Tunnel connects an internal MCP server to OpenAI using a customer-hosted tunnel client over outbound-only HTTPS. This design avoids inbound firewall changes and improves enterprise deployment flexibility.

Finally, OpenAI appears to test inline editable code blocks and math blocks. These tools resemble the writing block functionality spotted in earlier experiments and would improve hands-on coding and technical editing inside ChatGPT.

Alongside these tests, OpenAI recently released a new Translate feature and continues development on a cross-platform project called Agora. The company has shared a few details so far, but the steady stream of experiments shows no slowdown in ChatGPT’s expansion.
