As you might have heard, Microsoft has won the case against FTC, and now it’s free to close the deal with Activision Blizzard. This means that Microsoft is now sort of responsible for Activision Blizzard games, including titles such as Diablo, World of Warcraft, and especially Call of Duty.

Naturally, many players have started to ask what’s going to happen from now on with the games, and one of the most obvious questions had to do with Call of Duty. Will it stay on PlayStation, or it will become a Microsoft exclusive only?

And now the answer is here: it seems that Microsoft and PlayStation have signed an agreement to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, per Phil Spencer, head of Xbox.

We are pleased to announce that Microsoft and @PlayStation have signed a binding agreement to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. We look forward to a future where players globally have more choice to play their favorite games.

So you will be able to keep playing Call of Duty on PlayStation for a while now. Microsoft also fixed the old Call of Duty matchmaking servers last week, following the news of winning against FTC. So it seems the Redmond-based tech player is really gearing up for the future of gaming.

Call of Duty on PlayStation

According to the deal, the agreement between Microsoft and PlayStation is 10 years long, so for 10 years from now, you’ll be able to keep playing CoD on the PlayStation consoles. The deal is only in regards to the Call of Duty titles, and them alone.cod on playstation

But Sony is still worried that Microsoft will somehow sabotage the Call of Duty games on PlayStation, according to the Verge.

Microsoft might release a PlayStation version of Call of Duty where bugs and errors emerge only on the game’s final level or after later updates. Even if such degradations could be swiftly detected, any remedy would likely come too late, by which time the gaming community would have lost confidence in PlayStation as a go-to venue to play Call of Duty.

Sony

While this is unlikely to happen, Microsoft could have reasons to do it. Recently, the Redmond-based tech giant admitted that Xbox is losing the console war against Nintendo and PlayStation, so everything is possible.

However, users are excited. Some of them even think that this means Sony will take the matter into its own hands and will start releasing their exclusives on Xbox too, just to spite Microsoft.

Time for Sony to take a chunk of Microsoft revenue and release some of their games to Xbox.

Others would like to see Bethesda titles, such as the upcoming Starfield, on the PlayStation as well. Let’s not forget Starfield is a Microsoft exclusive, and it’s one of the most anticipated titles of the year.

I would rather see some Bethesda games on PlayStation than Call of Duty, but that’s just me.

It would be interesting if these would happen in the long run. What do you think? Let us know in the comments section below.
