Copilot Actions Starts Rolling Out to Windows Insiders

New feature lets Copilot work on file tasks

Microsoft is rolling out a new update to the Copilot app on Windows that brings Copilot Actions to Windows Insiders across all channels. The feature is available in version 1.25112.74 and higher and rolling out in every regions except in the EEA.

Copilot can now work directly with your files

With Copilot Actions, you can assign everyday tasks to an AI agent inside a secure, policy-controlled workspace. Microsoft describes this environment as a separate desktop instance created specifically for Copilot. It works independently from the user session but remains fully auditable.

You can describe tasks in natural language, and the AI agent attempts to handle them automatically. It can sort images, organize messy folders, convert files, extract details from PDFs, and complete other contextual actions based on content stored on your PC.

This Agent Workspace concept is designed to keep tasks contained and safe while giving Copilot more freedom to interact with apps and files. Users can monitor progress at any time or take control if needed.

An experimental Copilot Labs feature

Microsoft labels Copilot Actions as experimental, noting it may struggle with complex interfaces for now. The company encourages Insiders to monitor the agent’s activity closely and report any issues through feedback channels. Microsoft says it will expand use cases over time as performance improves.

How to get started

Inside the Copilot composer, you can select Take Action from the dropdown menu. You also have the option to attach files or folders via the + button. Copilot then builds a temporary desktop environment and begins executing the task.
